Interview with RedLine of GOW2 Team Zero
Gears veterans may not be familiar with RedLine. An unknown quantity on Gears of War, he quickly found his way onto one of the top roster in Gears of War 2, and has propelled himself into the cash finals of the CSL EU GOW2 4 on 4 cup. Guaranteed a share of at least €200, RedLine hopes to show YoYoTech, the organization who dropped his team earlier this month, what they’re missing.
How does it feel to be in the final of Europe’s biggest ever Gears of War-based tournament?

It feels great, I mean we’ve played in several tournaments and the CSL tournament has the best by far, going up against very good teams and placing on top. Even when we had a hard game ahead of us, we kept a positive attitude and went in the game knowing we were going to win.

Your path to the finals wasn’t exactly easy: H2k Gaming, Celsus and The Legacy all stood in your way, which match was the most difficult?

Well if I’m being honest now I would have to say they was all really hard games but The Legacy stood out to be the most challenging. We knew we had a difficult game to come when we found out they was our next game. We knew they had great teamwork and chemistry, but as I said before we went in with our heads up and came out on top.

What helped in your jump from a player we’d all glaze our eyes by to a player everyone in the community recognizes?

Well I wouldn’t say I’m a recognized player as of such, but I suppose going from making a team from scratch and then to representing Org’s helped a lot, but most of all it has been the players I have teamed with. They have helped me and supported the team and myself.

Explain what you and your teammates roles are in-game.

Well I am the captain of our team and do all interview’s and signing for the team, my role in the team is mainly slaying/shotgunning although I do support and snipe occasionally.

Antz/Anthony is the more supportive player in the team as he gathers up all the damage points whilst we go and gather the left overs, he uses the Shotgun when needed and has a secret talent with Sniper.

KZilla/Ross calls out all the strats for the team and is the more aggressive player in the team, his Shotgun skills and support helps bring all them kills together.

Bruzified/Joey is the host for the team, but not only does he support and do his job really well on host but he also picks up Sniper for the team and gets the crucial headshots when needed.

None of us are main power weapon players as we can all use them.

What has the support from your teammates been like?

Oh where to start (laughs), the support has be great even when we have lost a really important game or even just a scrim, we just hold our heads high and just keep that positive attitude. We then go over things that we did wrong and improve on what needs to be improved.

Who would your preferred opponents be in the finals? Would you like to have played someone other than Team Dignitas or The Legacy?

No, I would have to say that playing Dignitas would be really nice although having a rematch against The Legacy would be nice also. We just want to show what we have and that’s the reason we would love to play Dignitas in the finals as they was the main competition on GoW1 and we want to see if it is the same on GoW2.

Do you have separate game plans for different teams?

Not at all, we just go into every game with the same game style, although we have different tactics and strats whether it’s smokes or without smokes.

Gears of War 2 has been through many stages due to constant title updates, when do you feel the game was at its best?

In my opinion I think it was at its peak when it was the old school weekend with the cringe smokes.

Would you call Gears of War 2 an inconsistent game?

Of course, every game is inconsistent. A lot of bulls*** happens whether it’s sponging or getting stuck to a wall, but the game is also very good in the same way. Others may not agree but everyone has their own opinions.

With Gears of War potentially making a comeback, does the possibility of not playing Gears of War 2 at a competitive LAN worry you?

Not at all because I believe that GoW2 has a future. I wasn’t as good at GoW1 as I am at GoW2 for sure, but I’m sure that we have enough support for GoW2 to have a future. So GoW2 it is.

What were your thoughts when your previous sponsor, YoYoTech, announced they were dropping their entire 360 side?

I was fuming as we gave them all the advertising, meaning us playing in all of these tournaments and giving them the benefits of representing them, then all of a sudden we find out we got dropped. My team are not happy chaps either and I don’t assume any of the 360 side that was dropped is. Their loss not ours.

Are you looking to join a new organization?

Yes we are looking at other organizations. I would say but it’s all a suprise.

What are you planning to do in the future once the CSL EU GOW2 4on4 cup is over? Will you follow the crowd or chose your own path?

Carry on playing GoW2 and make sure we give and get enough support so that GoW2 stays.

Will you be attending the recently announced ESGN LAN event?

Yes we are going to ESGN (or as others may know it as XL7), we are also going to XG LAN on the 01/08/2009. I have not been to any LAN events as of yet but my teammates have been to XL6. I’m going to prove what myself and my team have got, and prove that we are not an online team as some people think.

What game do you hope to see featured at ESGN?

I hope to see GoW2 of course, but I’m also looking forward to seeing all of the competitive games.

Does Modern Warfare 2 tempt you over Gears of War 2?

Kind of because when CoD4 first came out I didn’t really play it like that, but GoW2 will still be my main game. Modern Warfare 2 will be the relaxing game and puts the icing on the cake.

Finally, who do you think you’ll be facing off against on Sunday, and what’s your prediction for the finals?

I have a feeling it will be Dignitas because of their amazing chemistry from GoW1 and their teamwork, but nonetheless we are looking forward to playing either of the two teams.

My predictions for the final game is us winning, I say that as we are very confident and strong as a team, whether it’s going to be a 3 -0 or a 3 – 2 victory I’m positive we will win. That’s the thing to have though isn’t it, positive attitude. It will be a great game though.
